GameCity had a splendid time last weekend saving videogames at the National Space Centre in Leicester. Spending much of our time talking about and playing games of a certain vintage with a wide variety of the public, we did manage to steal some time to have a looksee at the exhibition AND managed to get some marvelous new Save The Videogame pledges. (..more about that whole campaign very soon... After a brief hiatus it's going to be coming back with a vengeance in July...)
One of the things we think about most here is how to contextualise and translate information for the widest possible section of the public, and the NSC to that end has some amazing assets. We strongly recommend you all go out there as soon as possible - and make SURE you check out the 360 degree cinema. V nice..
Anyway - to business. Some of you may be aware that we're having a 'do' on July 1st, when we make some things happen, announce some festival details and generally hang out in the company of friends. If you're reading this, it's possible that you might even be one of our friends. Thus, we have a couple of propositions to make...
Proposition the first:
Want to come along to the launch bash? Great, me too. It would be great if you could come along to the Market Square for 16:00 on July 1st.
The only thing we ask is that if you might drop geri an email and let her know, otherwise she gets upset. Email geri at gamecity.org and she'll try and put you on a 'list'.
Proposition the second:
As you're probably aware, GameCity relies very heavily on volunteers for stewarding events. If you don't hate the public, enjoy wearing t-shirts with 'steward' written on them and have a sparkling, effortless charisma then you might enjoy it. There are few benefits, other than the ongoing gratitude of a city and the odd free-drink - but the extraordinary sense of self you'll get from taking part will make it an unforgettable experience. It's like the most brilliant soul-food you ever ate, at least that's what most of the stewards said last year.
Mostly.
If you could email geri AT gamecity.org telling her something about yourself, that would be wonderful.
Right! Promise it won't be so long until our next update - lots has been happening and we're trying to make sure there's some substantial stuff to announce come July 1st... By way of reassurance, please find below a pic of our scheduling board. This is the first time we've used index cards, having sketched out most of last years programme on a big window at the Broadway - although perhaps we'll save our full event management methods for another post. It's getting late.
Thanks for your support!
See you on the 1st!

Will be sure to be there on July 1st along with the rest of the guys :)
Will pop an email over to Geri
