Hello to you.

This is just a quick, brief communique to thank you all for supporting GameCity through the last year. We had an amazing time at the festival this year, which was totally down to your support.

Incase you didn’t make it, we thought we’d pull together a few choice links for you to see which might give you an impression of what happened…

Our steadily growing flickr pool can be found here:

http://flickr.com/photos/gamecityfestival

although if you want a slightly broader collection of pictures of GameCitizens dressed as zombies, you might want to try this:

http://flickr.com/search/?ss=2&ct=6&w=all&q=gamecity+zombies&m=text

If that’s not enough for you, NG Magazine have produced this brilliant report:

http://www.ng-magazine.com/Diary/General/Nottingham_Gamecity_3:_Video_Review/

Interested in things a little more ‘gamey’? That’s ok… Before we release our nice HD footage of the events at the festival this year, you can gorge yourself on things like Alex Evans showing you some never-before-seen Media Molecule process footage:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=J6DX2bnaOS0

or maybe Jonathan Coulton teaching a song to a crowd of zombies:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3eVI47fkphg

or perhaps the Doyouinverts playing live with One Lift Left (in bed) in the Mogal-e-Azam Indian restaurant:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=81IFEifDtyA&feature=related

or finally - maybe David Doak and Martin Hollis giving an exclusive Directors Commentary of the making of Goldeneye?:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TuIZpr7B2HQ

There’s lots more out there but that hopefully gives you something of an idea if you didn’t make it.

If you were there, then first - THANKS - and second - we’d really appreciate any feedback you can offer us about it, good or bad. If you want to drop me an email at iain[at]gamecity.org - I’d really appreciate it.

Right - we’re off for a bit. Thanks again so much for your support.

Maybe we’ll do it again next year?

bye!

Thanks to our lovely friends at Capcom, who are also sponsoring the world record zombie gathering attempt extravaganza, GameCitizens will be able to play the one and only Resident Evil 5 at our brilliant Halloween party on the evening of Friday 31st. So, if you’ve always longed a chance to play one of the most hotly antipated games of next year in a roomful of zombies while Jonathan Coulton rocks out, this is very much your moment. Head over to our ticketing site to pick up a pass for Friday - or indeed the whole festival - and make sure you pick your wristband up at GateCrasher before 4pm to be sure of getting in to this 18+ only event.

Hello everyone.

We’re getting very near the start, which is good news. As things move soooo quickly here at the Manor, we thought another brief update might be in order.

—-

We had a meeting late last week with a group of the stakeholders, and we’ve decided we’re definitely going to make a city out of paper.

The esteemed, but very mysterious artist Tubbypaws has decided he/she/it is going to visit GameCity 3 and help us to build LittleGameCity in the circus tent on the market square.

There’s going to be a brilliant papercraft generator on this site in the next day or so, the same amazing machine that will be in the tent - so you get plenty of opportunity to do some practicing.

We hope you can come along to help.

http://tubbypaws.blogspot.com/

———

We’re also running our special session just for parents and non-gamers, a place where people who need some answers can *finally* get some…

Who’s Afraid of videogames has some very special guests…

What are videogames?

Can they hurt me or my family?

How can they help me?

What can they add to my life?

Gerard Jones, Eisner award winner comic-book writer and best-selling author of Killing Monstersi has touched down in the UK. Jones is the headline speaker at Saturday’s Parent 101 -Who’s Afraid of Videogames?l where he will be talking about his work and then leading a panel offering to answer ANY question that parents or the less game-savvy might have. Jones will be joined by TT Games’ Jonathan Smith, Cyberpsychology expert Dr Monica Whitty of Nottingham Trent University and writer and Gamer-Dad Jon Hamblin.

A free event from 12-3 at Waterstones.

——–

As if that weren’t enough - ALL DAY in the GameCity Medium-top, you’ll be able to play some awesome Projector Games. ProjectorGames is a collection of games specifically designed and written to be played on massive screens at LAN parties, conventions, and other events with support for hundreds of players. At the event we will have 40 controllers available.

Crikey.

——-

Oh, and incase you hadn’t heard, it *really* isn’t too late…

http://www.savethevideogame.org

——-

Oooop! We just heard that a load of our American and European visitors have just boarded planes, which must mean that there really isn’t very long left…

Hope to see you soon!!!

Hello you, and welcome to this special edition of GameCity news.

Today, things were a little quiet around the office, so after a flurry of discussion about what we should do, we all agreed that launching a global campaign might be the most sensible. This flourish of ambitious pragmatism quickly became a new project, built to raise awareness of the National Videogame Archive and to collect oral histories for its vaults.

Thus, for your amusement and participation, we present the global launch of www.savethevideogame.org .

Please remember, it’s not too late.
