More swings and roundabouts…

mousewheelThis should really be a festival wrap-up post, but in lieu of that, we thought you might appreciate your attention being drawn to this.

Some of you might be aware that we’re building a playground with our best friend KeitaTakahashi. If you’ve heard anything at all about this project, you’ll be excited to learn that last week at GameCity5, he unveiled some of the designs that have been worked on over the last year. It was a fun session, and Keita has posted the slides and text from it up at Uvula for your delight.

You’ll see from Keita’s post that there are a lot of ideas we’re all working through. Right now we’re continuing meetings with landscape architects, materials experts and engineers to decide where we go next with the project. Perhaps it might be a useful thing to do to start a process blog for this project so that we can keep people better informed – is that something you’d like?

I thought it might be helpful here to just restate some of the questions (and answers) that came out of the talk on Saturday.

1. When is it going to be completed?

We don’t know. But it’s very likely it will be started in the next few months with a staged building process.

2. Can we see the whole plans?

Yes, but not now. One of the most important things about the project is that local residents are fully consulted. We didn’t want to show any overview plans of the project until we’re 100% that they’re right for us, and of course, possible. Making sure people’s expectations are right and no-one is mislead is super-important in this project. Hope you understand, promise you’ll be the first to know.

3. Cats or Dogs?

He likes them both.
